Market Value for Video Transmission Services over Satellite to Reach US$ 27 Billion by 2020

Paris, February 9, 2011--In its recently released report, Euroconsult forecasts that the market value for video transmission services over satellite including video distribution services for TV channels and contribution services for permanent and occasional use is expected to reach $27 billion in 2020, up from $15.8 billion in 2010.

Satellite Set Top Box Shipments Down 8% in Each of the North American and Western European Regions

Scottsdale, Ariz., Feb. 3, 2011--North American satellite pay-TV providers have not been adding subscribers at the same rate as previous years. Competition has been fierce from cable and telco providers offering bundled services and gains in subscribers as a result of being the video portion of telco triple play offers, have mostly run their course.  In Europe, the market will be impacted by less need for set top boxes, because more TV sets have integrated satellite tuners and CI+ slots.  As a result, shipments of satellite set top boxes declined in 2010 by 8% in both the North American and Western European regions, according to In-Stat.

3D TV Market and Future Forecast Worldwide (2010 - 2014)

Dublin, Ireland, Feb. 1, 2011--Television manufacturers are viewing 3D developments as the next big thing for the 3D TV industry, and expect it to boost sales and interest as much as color TVs did to black and white entertainment decades ago. They have already announced several 3D TV ready models, with many more to come in 2011. There is now talk of 3D broadcast channels in America, Europe and Asia for the coming years. The top four companies, Sony Corporation, LG Electronics, Samsung, and Panasonic Corporation have already come up with their own variants of 3D display products, which they believe would be of interest to consumers.

Consumer Electronics Market Boosted by Connected Home Products in 2011

El Segundo, Calif., Jan. 25, 2011--Global unit shipments of consumer electronics (CE) products will climb 2.6 percent in 2010, partly driven by rising sales of products that play a role in the connected home and that focus on usability—rather than technological wizardry—according to new IHS iSuppli research.

A Billion Connected Consumer Electronic (CE) Devices by 2016

London, Janaury 21, 2011--A  new report entitled “Two Worlds Connected: Consumer Electronics Meets Mobile Broadband” from the UMTS Forum predicts that there will be  one billion Consumer Electronics (CE) devices connected to mobile broadband networks by 2016. While the market for connected devices remains embryonic, the study argues that CE device connectivity will outstrip overall wireless market growth in the next five years. This trend is signalled by a wave of device categories – from e-Book readers to satnav devices – that are already demanding access to cellular networks.

Installed Base of “Smart TV” Web-Enabled Home Consumer Electronics Devices to Reach Over 230 Million by 2014

Russian IPTV Market Reaches 374k Subscribers

Wellingborough, UK, Jan. 20, 2011--Preliminary results from the IMS Research study IPTV: A Global Market Analysis – 2011 Edition, reveal that the IPTV subscriber base in the emerging BRIC markets exceeds 8 million subscribers for 2010, with China dominating the figure.  A CAGR of 13% for BRIC is expected through the forecast period, which ends in 2015.

3D TV Forecast to Reach 91 Million Global Shipments in 2014

Santa Clara, Calif.  January 4, 2011--The availability of 3D content will remain the greatest determinant of the value of 3D TVs to consumers – and as a result its achievable premium in TV sets. 3D TVs were launched with much fanfare at IFA 2009, but a year ago at CES, the first real products reached the market. 2.1 Billion Over-the-Top (OTT) Devices to Ship

Wellingborough, UK, December 2, 2010--Over-the-Top (OTT) services have grown very popular over the last year and they will only get bigger considering the connectivity of home entertainment and portable CE devices. Based on a recently published study, Convergence in Home Entertainment and Portable CE Markets, IMS Research forecasts that over 2.1 billion connected devices will ship globally. This includes a forecast of 592 million fixed entertainment devices such as TV sets and game consoles, nearly 2 billion portable CE such as smartphones and tablets, and 268 million home network devices such as residential gateways.
