Satellite IRG to Host Annual Conference in Dubai

Douglas, Isle of Man, August 21, 2012--The Satellite Interference Reduction Group (IRG) today announced that its annual conference will be held in Dubai from 18th - 20th November 2012.The annual IRG conference brings together experts from all areas of the industry, including broadcasters, satellite operators, and equipment manufacturers. It provides a forum to discuss recent developments, as well as looking forward to the next steps.

International Discussion Forum on HTS Satellites to be Organised by GVF-EMP

Washington, D.C., August 1, 2012--Broadband is the hot topic all around the world and the global satellite industry is responding to accelerating demand for frequency spectrum to satisfy the requirements for increasing Internet bandwidth from a wide range of end-users. Key end-users include the Corporate, Enterprise, Government, NGO, and Internet Service Provision sectors, as well as the satellite news gathering (SNG) segment, and the consumer sector. As of November 2011, new satellites with ‘High Throughput’ capability already numbered around 30 in geosynchronous (GEO) orbit alone, and satellite operators have announced plans for additional ‘High Throughput’ systems that will see around 40 more satellites in GEO, together with constellations of other systems in medium earth orbit (MEO) and low earth orbit (LEO).

European Commission’s Neelie Kroes Confirmed to Keynote Broadband World Forum 2012

London, UK, July 9, 2012--Neelie Kroes, Vice President of the European Commission, is set to deliver a keynote speech on the opening day of the world’s largest broadband conference and exhibition, the Broadband World Forum. Broadband Communications Are Far From All-at-Sea with GVF Maritime Insight Agenda

London, UK, June 4, 2012--Seventy per cent of Earth is covered by the oceans, but, although only very few of us occupy this part of Earth’s surface except on a temporary basis, we increasingly look to the seas as a resource for industry, commerce and leisure. Thus, the comparative hostility of the seas, in contrast to our populated land masses, does not diminish their vital, and increasing, importance as a means of transport for our globalised trade goods, as an important source of food supplies and of vital energy resources, as well as an environment for our entertainment pursuits. Indeed, it is a combination of its hostility and the increasing importance of the sea which now renders our ability to communicate effectively whilst on its surface of paramount importance.

Geneva, Switzerland, June 1, 2012-That quote from Peter Ludé, Senior VP at Sony Electronics, Inc. very neatly summed up the SMPTE Forum on Emerging Technologies held in Geneva in May.  However at the end of day one a show hands indicated that by an overwhelming majority even if they didn’t know what it was going to look like, the 130 delegates from 23 countries felt that the future was bright!
